What is MDVR? Differences from Dashcams
YUWEI integrates a fleet management platform with the MDVR system, which can reduce operational risks and costs, improve the safety of fleets and drivers, and enhance profitability. The platform supports the management and analysis of MDVR data.
(I) Main User Groups
① Dashcam: Designed for passenger vehicles, with inferior robustness, durability, storage capacity, and connectivity functions compared to MDVRs.
② MDVR: Exclusively designed for commercial vehicles, suitable for public transportation (shuttle buses, school buses, long-distance coaches), logistics and freight, cold chain, bonded trucks, taxis, etc. It is also adopted by public service departments such as police, fire brigades, and ambulances. It can record video both inside and outside the vehicle, providing irrefutable evidence for accident liability determination and avoiding economic losses for relevant parties.

(II) Number of Supported Recording Cameras
① Dashcam: The standard version supports a maximum of 2 cameras (front and rear dual recording), and the high-end version supports a maximum of 3 cameras (front, rear, and inside the cockpit).
② MDVR: The basic version supports simultaneous recording of 3-4 channels, and the high-end version can be expanded to 16 channels, supporting multi-scenario recording configurations (e.g., front/rear + driver, multi-angles around trailers/cargo holds). The YUWEI MDVR system supports 8 cameras, including 1 channel of 1080P resolution and 7 channels of 720P resolution.
(III) Camera Quality and Features
① Dashcam: External cameras do not meet the IP68 waterproof and weatherproof rating and are only suitable for in-cockpit use.
② MDVR: All YUWEI vehicle-mounted cameras achieve protection ratings such as IP66 and IP68, and externally mounted cameras are additionally equipped with anti-collision housings.

(V) Tamper-Proof Structure
Professional MDVRs are equipped with a tamper-proof storage compartment design (physical locks, tamper-evident seals + passwords, fingerprint recognition) to prevent video evidence from being tampered with or deleted. This function is exclusive to commercial vehicles and is rarely available in dashcams.
(VI) Advanced Video Recording Function – Real-Time Video Cloud Streaming
MDVRs support upgradable and expandable functions, while dashcams have fixed functions. The YUWEI MDVR supports real-time video cloud streaming upgrades; it can connect to the network with a 3G/4G/5G SIM card, allowing fleet managers to view in real time via mobile phones, tablets, and computers. The platform supports simultaneous streaming of 4 camera feeds.
(VII) Advanced Safety Function – Driver Monitoring System (DMS)
Based on AI/ML edge computing technology, DMS assesses the driver's safety status through in-cockpit cameras. It can identify behaviors such as inattention, mobile phone use while driving, smoking, not wearing a seatbelt, drowsiness, drunk driving, and one-handed driving. It is now integrated into the YUWEI MDVR at a low cost.
(VIII) Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) Cameras
ADAS is an AI/ML-driven camera module (installed on the front windshield) that monitors vehicles ahead and warns of collision risks. High-end models also support lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, speed limit monitoring, pedestrian detection, and other functions, serving as a cost-effective solution for collision prevention.
