Large vehicle fleets on the road always make people nervous—trucks, buses, construction vehicles—their massive bodies naturally create visual blind spots: right-turn “inner wheel clearance,” side and rear blind spots during lane changes, reversing blind zones… These areas often become “fatal traps” for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Fleet Blind Spot Detection System (BSD)is using technology to fill these gaps, equipping vehicles with a “smart eye” for safety.

What is a BSD System

Fleet Blind Spot Detection System

A fleet BSD is a safety-assist system that actively monitors the vehicle’s blind spots outside the traditional field of view through sensor fusion. Its core function is to provide real-time warnings for pedestrians, vehicles, and other risks in blind spotsto prevent collisions.

Working Principle: “Perception → Computation → Warning” Closed Loop

1. Perception:

Multi-dimensional environmental data is collected via:

① Millimeter-wave radar on the sides and rear (distance, speed, angle)

② Cameras (detect pedestrians, lane markings)

③ Ultrasonic radar (short-range blind spot coverage)

2. Computation:

Onboard chips fuse and analyze the data, combining vehicle speed and turn signal information to determine blind spot risks.

3. Warning:

When a risk enters a “danger distance”(e.g., vehicles within 3 meters on the side/rear, pedestrians within 5 meters behind), tiered warningsare triggered:

① Low risk: Steering wheel vibration

② Medium risk: Audible/visual alarm + dashboard display

③ High risk: Intervention control

Compared with passive defense relying on “mirrors + human observation,” BSD actively monitors all blind spots in all weather conditions, covering scenarios like rain, fog, nighttime, turning, lane changing, and reversing—upgrading accident prevention from “experience-based” to technology-backed safety.

Why Fleets Must Deploy a BSD

For fleets, safety and efficiency are operational priorities, and BSD delivers both:

a. Reduce Accidents and Losses

① Statistics show over 30% of large vehicle accidents involve blind spots, and 75% of pedestrians or cyclists caught under vehicles die.

② A logistics company found that after installing BSD, blind spot accidents decreased by 68% in six months, saving nearly 500,000 RMBin repair costs alone.

b. Improve Efficiency and Minimize Risks

① BSD warning records can be used for driver behavior assessment, standardizing operational habits.

② Integrated into a fleet management system (TMS), the data can optimize routes or training, shifting from “post-incident accountability” to prevention-first strategies.

c. Adapt to Complex Scenarios, Ensure Safety Everywhere

1. BSD adapts through multi-sensor fusionin scenarios such as:

① Reversing construction vehicles

② Lane changes for buses

③ Trucks on highways

2. For example, when a construction vehicle turns right, BSD calculates the inner wheel clearance area and issues a “pedestrian on right” alert 1.5 seconds early, preventing accidents before they occur.

Currently, YUWEI BSDhas been deployed in fleets for JD Logistics, Shenzhen Bus, and China State Construction Third Bureau, among others. A courier company installed BSD on over 2,000 line-haul trucks, resulting in zero blind spot accidents in six monthsand a 40% improvement in driver operational compliance, achieving a true win-win of safety and efficiency.
