CCTV Camera for Car and Home CCTV

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) security camera systems are becoming increasingly relevant to people's lives. In daily life, we can see many surveillance cameras installed in various places such as shopping malls, apartments, offices, buses, taxis, and more. However, these surveillance cameras are not all the same. This article will explore the differences between traditional CCTV cameras and car-mounted cameras from several aspects.

1. Differences in Size:

Traditional CCTV cameras are usually larger in size and widely installed in people's surroundings, making them easily noticeable. In contrast, car-mounted cameras are smaller in size, mostly installed in concealed locations, and limited to installation on vehicles, thus rarely attracting attention. There is a wide variety of traditional CCTV camera types such as bullet cameras, dome cameras, PTZ cameras, and even explosion-proof cameras, while car-mounted cameras offer relatively limited choices such as small dome cameras, small waterproof cameras, mirror cameras, etc.

2. Differences in Basic Specifications:

Traditional CCTV cameras are mostly installed indoors in buildings, requiring coverage of a considerably large field of view and distant shooting, thus necessitating higher video resolution and clear image quality. Nowadays, traditional CCTV cameras can provide resolutions ranging from 1.3MP, 2MP, 5MP, to even 4K. In contrast, popular resolutions in the car-mounted CCTV market are still analog cameras, 720P AHD cameras, and 1080P AHD cameras. This difference is due to the fact that car-mounted cameras only need to capture clear images of the vehicle's surroundings at close range (usually less than 10 meters), while traditional CCTV cameras need to capture clear images at both short and long distances (usually less than 10 meters and beyond 10 meters).

3. Differences in Installation:

Due to the different application scenarios of traditional CCTV cameras and car-mounted cameras, their installation methods also vary. Traditional CCTV cameras are typically installed in a single environment, with cameras placed at a considerable distance from each other, allowing users to choose between wired or wireless connections between cameras and recorders. Moreover, the connectors for traditional CCTV cameras are usually BNC or RJ45 ports. In contrast, car-mounted cameras are installed inside vehicles, with cameras placed at shorter distances from each other, mostly connected to recorders via wired connections. Additionally, due to the bumpy and vibrating working environment inside vehicles, connectors for car-mounted cameras are generally aviation plugs, to prevent loosening of the connection between the camera and the car recorder.

Apart from the differences in camera connectors, their power requirements also differ. Traditional CCTV cameras require higher power compared to car-mounted cameras. Typically, traditional CCTV cameras require DC12V or 24V power, while car-mounted cameras require DC5V power.

Differentiating between traditional CCTV cameras and car-mounted cameras based on the aforementioned tips is not difficult. If users still cannot make a final decision, they can seek advice from salespersons based on the specific requirements of their projects.
