Dash Camera with Collision Warning

Nowadays, with increasingly complex road traffic, driving safety has become the core concern of drivers. According to statistics, nearly 93% of traffic accidents result from human error, and distracted driving is one of the main causes. To address this challenge, automakers and dash cam manufacturers have introduced Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), upgrading traditional dash cams into intelligent safety assistants.

ADAS: Intelligent Co-pilot

Based on artificial intelligence, ADAS continuously monitors the surrounding environment of the vehicle, identifies potential threats, and provides real-time alerts to help drivers stay alert. Many modern vehicles are equipped with built-in ADAS, and some high-end dash cams (such as YUWEI) also integrate these functions, enabling any vehicle to enjoy advanced safety protection.

Core Warning Functions

1. Front Vehicle Start Alert

When the vehicle is completely stationary, the system monitors whether the vehicle ahead moves and promptly reminds the driver to follow the traffic flow.

2. Lane Departure Warning

It monitors the vehicle’s position within the lane and issues a warning when the driver unintentionally drifts out of the lane without activating the turn signal, preventing accidents caused by distracted or fatigued driving. Most systems have a minimum speed threshold and are only activated at higher speeds.

3. Forward Collision Warning

It directly monitors the vehicle ahead via a front-view camera or a combination of a camera and radar sensor, and alerts the driver when the distance is too close.

YUWEI dash cams offer four visual forward collision warnings: two for low speed and two for high speed. The low-speed warning is triggered at speeds below 30 km/h, and the regular warning is activated at speeds above 30 km/h.

4. Rear Collision Warning

Premium dual-channel dash cams equipped with radar (such as the YUWEI V8N) feature rear collision warning. It notifies the driver in a timely manner when a vehicle behind approaches rapidly and a potential accident is imminent.

5. Safety Camera Alert

Using GPS data and a database of camera locations, it provides real-time warnings when approaching traffic enforcement cameras such as red-light cameras, ideal for drivers traveling to unfamiliar places daily.

6. Fatigued Driving Alert

Some ADAS systems provide fatigue alerts. After continuous driving for an extended period, the dash cam informs the driver of the accumulated driving hours and recommends a short break.

Working Principle of the Collision Warning System

The forward collision warning system uses a front-view camera or a combination of a camera and radar sensor to monitor the vehicle ahead while driving. A green icon is displayed when the vehicle ahead is detected normally, which changes to an amber tailgating alert if the following distance is too close.

When the vehicle approaches the vehicle ahead too quickly and a collision may occur within seconds, the system flashes a red collision alert at the lower part of the windshield and emits eight high-frequency beeps. For vehicles equipped with a safety alert seat function, the driver can choose to receive beeps or seat pulse reminders.

Drivers can set the tailgating alert and forward collision warning timing to "Far", "Medium" or "Near" via steering wheel controls. The timing is based on factors such as the distance to the vehicle ahead and vehicle speed. Traffic and weather conditions should be taken into account when making the selection.

YUWEI V8N Fleet Dash Cam

The YUWEI V8N is an intelligent dash cam integrating ADAS and DMS functions, providing all-round safety protection for drivers.

Highlights of Core Functions

① Dual-camera System: Built-in starlight front camera (1080P, 139° field of view) and 2-megapixel infrared in-cabin camera (720P, 180° field of view), supporting angle adjustment.

② ADAS Functions: Supports Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Monitoring & Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and Pedestrian Collision Warning.

③ DMS Monitoring: Detects unsafe behaviors such as fatigued driving (yawning, eyes closed), distracted driving, phone calls, smoking, and not wearing a seat belt.

④ Facial Recognition: Realizes driver identity verification to enhance vehicle safety management.

⑤ BSD Blind Spot Detection: Extended camera monitors pedestrians or non-motor vehicles in the driver’s blind spot.

⑥ Aggressive Driving Detection: Identifies dangerous driving behaviors such as rapid acceleration, sudden deceleration, and sharp turns.

Advantages of Technical Specifications

① Built-in 4G communication module, Wi-Fi module, and GNSS positioning module.

② Supports 4-channel video recording (including 2 channels on the host).

③ Supports dual TF cards, with a maximum capacity of 2TB per card.

④ Equipped with CAN bus for real-time vehicle data collection.

⑤ Supports mobile APP for function settings, video playback, real-time streaming, and historical trajectory query.

⑥ Compact design, easy installation, and does not block the driver’s view.

Intelligent Voice Reminders

The V8N provides real-time voice reminders for safe driving, including diverse prompts such as "Lane Departure", "Keep Distance", "Collision Warning", "Watch for Pedestrians", "Front Vehicle Starting", "Fatigue Warning", "Phone Detected", "Smoking Detected", etc.

Key Points for ADAS Activation and Setup

Not all dash cams are equipped with ADAS, and devices with this function also require specific conditions to be activated. Some ADAS functions rely on GPS data, so it must be ensured that the dash cam is equipped with a GPS module. The YUWEI V8N has built-in ADAS functions.

To activate ADAS, ensure that the ADAS setting of the dash cam is turned on. Settings include adjusting sensitivity, warning thresholds, and enabling or disabling specific functions. Drivers can make adjustments via a dedicated mobile application.

Calibration Requirements

Some ADAS functions may require vehicle body calibration for proper operation. Calibration includes adjusting the camera angle or setting appropriate lane departure warning alignment as recommended by the manufacturer. There is a calibration button in the camera settings for calibration specific to the vehicle body.

A dash cam equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System acts as a trusted co-pilot, continuously monitoring the vehicle’s surroundings, providing real-time alerts, and enhancing the safety of drivers and passengers. In addition to protective functions, it also improves traffic flow, increases regulatory compliance, and prevents accidents.

Intelligent dash cams such as the YUWEI V8N provide a comprehensive safety solution for modern driving through the perfect integration of ADAS and DMS technologies.
