What Does a Vehicle DVR Mean

A car DVR refers to a vehicle-mounted digital video recorder, which is a specialized embedded hard disk recorder used in vehicles. The DVR incorporates the latest technologies in H.264 audio and video compression/decompression, GPS global positioning, 3G wireless communication, USB communication, advanced vehicle power management, and GIS geographic information technology, making it suitable for 24-hour monitoring of various types of vehicles. The main unit has multiple reserved interfaces to achieve audio and video synchronization, global positioning, wireless audio transmission, and can connect with in-vehicle display screens, IC card trucks, signal priority control systems, passenger flow statistics systems, and other in-vehicle equipment. It can be widely used in buses, long-distance passenger transport, school buses, engineering vehicles, police enforcement vehicles, trains, subways, ships, and other mobile transportation.

Currently, vehicle-mounted DVRs have three storage methods: hard drives, USB drives, and SD cards, with USB drives (vehicle-mounted USB recorders) being more reliable. USB drives have no mechanical moving parts, consume less power, and can be used in various vehicles with severe bumps and harsh power environments. The USB interface design is suitable for repeated insertion, making it more reliable than SD cards. The SD card interface is an internal interface of the device and is not suitable for frequent insertion and removal, otherwise the damage rate is high. In contrast, the USB interface is an interface between devices, designed specifically for data exchange between devices, making it suitable for long-term data exchange.

Shock and vibration reduction technology is a key technology of vehicle-mounted hard disk recorders and is what distinguishes them from traditional embedded hard disk recorders. Conventional hard disk vibration and shock reduction technology generally adopts a mechanical method, suspending the hard disk in a specially designed hard disk shock absorber that absorbs external vibration and impact energy, ensuring that fragile parts like the hard disk read/write head are not affected by external mechanical vibrations. Additionally, some manufacturers have chosen electronic shock reduction solutions, using external acceleration sensors to obtain vibration information and intervening in the hard disk read/write cycle based on the vibration intensity to protect the hard disk read/write head.

In summary, in addition to video surveillance functions, vehicle-mounted DVRs also add some industry-specific functions, such as GPS satellite positioning, driving information recording, media advertisement playback, etc.
